Your work beautifully blends healing, tradition, and spirituality. What was the emotional or personal turning point that inspired you to dedicate your life to Ayurveda,Kalari and wellness?
Thank you for your kind words.
To be honest, my dedication to this field didn’t stem from an immediate, unquenchable passion for Kalaripayattu, traditional Ayurveda, or spirituality. In the beginning, it was purely a matter of survival.
While it is true that I had an immense love for the martial art and trained relentlessly, passion alone doesn’t secure a livelihood. After graduating, I found myself searching for a job, only to realize how difficult it was for a fresh graduate to find meaningful employment. Facing uncertainty, I asked myself, “All I truly know is Kalaripayattu what should I do next?”
I took this dilemma to my Guru. His answer completely shifted my perspective. Guruji told me that the question wasn’t about what I should do, but rather what I had done to nurture and utilize the knowledge I already possessed. That insight opened my eyes.
I stepped into the role completely, taking on the responsibilities of managing and teaching Kalaripayattu. However, I quickly realized that a superficial understanding wasn’t enough. To truly honor the art and the Ayurvedic Marma treatments, I needed to go deeper. I began approaching this great tradition with the mindset of a dedicated researcher, striving to understand its profound depths. Over time, what started as a means of survival naturally transformed, and it is fair to say it has now become my very life.
Your work beautifully blends healing, tradition, and spirituality. What was the emotional or personal turning point that inspired you to dedicate your life to Ayurveda,Kalari and wellness?
“Shareeramadyamkhalu dharma sadhana.”(The body is indeed the primary instrument for fulfilling one’s duty and spiritual path.)
Whether your goal is to fight, practice righteousness (dharma), or meditate, you must first master, control, and understand your body. Kalaripayattu is far more than just a martial art; it is a profound science of body conditioning, self-defense, and holistic human development. It beautifully weaves together art, science, mathematics, and social life. Its structured systems and practical applications are, at their core, tools for complete personality development.
In ancient times, before learning to read and write, parents would entrust their children to Kalari Gurus at the very young age of (4) four. The goal was to train them in the art of self-defense and mold them into disciplined individuals. It was the Gurukkal who would trace out their unique talents and capabilities, eventually directing them toward literacy and higher education. These Gurus were tasked with identifying and igniting the latent energy inherent within every individual. Concisely, through this process, the harmony of physical, mental, and spiritual faculties was perfected and transformed for the entire society.
Today, in our fast-paced modern era, the relevance of Kalaripayattu has only multiplied. It has become an extraordinary vehicle for self-enlightenment and liberation a powerful means to reunite the mind and body, which so often become fragmented by the relentless hustle and bustle of modern life.
Ultimately, our lives truly find meaning only when we share these realities with those around us. Having experienced firsthand how this magnificent system fosters physical, mental, and spiritual growth leading to a total transformation of the individual I realized I could not keep it to myself. The profound conviction that making even a small effort to preserve and share this knowledge was my sacred responsibility to our society and culture is what truly motivated me to turn my attention completely to this path.
Masters Kalari Heritage carries forward a deep lineage of Gurukula tradition and Marma healing. How do you preserve authenticity while still connecting with younger generations and international visitors?
It is actually quite simple. In this modern era, it is an undeniable reality that no matter what a person achieves—regardless of how highly educated or wealthy they become—true peace, tranquility, and lasting satisfaction remain elusive. As a result, people are constantly searching to find the meaning of their lives. The root cause of this restlessness is that modern human beings have lost touch with their true identity. To rediscover it, we must return to nature.
Our ancestors lived in perfect harmony with the natural world, deeply connected to the vital energies of the universe. They understood this balance perfectly. Following in their footprints, every single activity at Masters Kalari Heritage whether it is the martial training, Marma treatments, traditional medicine preparation, organic farming, or daily cooking is carried out in strict accordance with tradition.
In short, we do not just teach a system; we live a lifestyle. We preserve our authenticity not by compromising for the modern world, but by providing younger generations and international visitors with the rare opportunity to immerse themselves in this rhythm, experience it firsthand, and integrate these timeless principles into their own lives.
Many guests arrive carrying stress, burnout, or emotional pain. Is there a healing story from a patient or visitor that deeply touched your heart and stayed with you?
There are certainly many such experiences, as nearly everyone who walks through our doors carries a unique burden.
Recently, a 26-year-old woman came to us suffering from severe cervical nerve compression and nerve impingement. She was experiencing debilitating neck pain, profound numbness, and a terrifying loss of sensation in her arm. Having tried numerous medical treatments without success, she approached us in deep despair, believing that even surgery might not offer a permanent recovery. Within a week by our traditional Marma treatments, her physical symptoms vanished, and she was completely cured. More importantly, she was freed from the crushing emotional stress and mental exhaustion she had been carrying, allowing her to joyfully return to her normal life and career.
We see transformations like hers every single day. Modern society has turned daily life into a frantic race where people are simply working to survive. This relentless pace and the resulting lifestyle changes are the root causes of chronic illness.
At Masters Kalari Heritage, we don’t just treat the symptom; we address the whole person. By immersing guests in our tranquil environment, providing traditional therapies, physical exercises Kalari/ Yoga, and guiding them through meditation, which help to calm their physical, mental, and spiritual bodies. This holistic process sparks a fundamental transformation, allowing them to truly rediscover what it feels like to be healthy and inspiring them to carry that newfound balance back into their daily lives.
Ayurveda, Kalari, and Yoga all come from ancient Indian wisdom traditions. In your experience, how are these three connected in creating balance between body, mind, and spirit?
Kalaripayattu, Yoga, and Ayurveda are the three greatest gifts that ancient India has bestowed upon humanity. Together, they form a complete trinity for human evolution: Kalaripayattu for physical strength and defense, Ayurveda for healthcare and healing, and Yoga for mental equanimity and spiritual liberation.
To understand how they connect, we must look at what each tradition says about true health:
Ayurveda (The Science of Life) The CharakaSamhita defines health beautifully:
“Samadoshasamagnischsamdhatumalakriya |Prasannatmaindriyamanahswasthaityabhidhiyate ||”
Ayur-arogyam-aishvaryamvaang-manas-gacharaatitam |
Sarvaankaamaanavaapnotijivan-muktonasamshayah ||
This says that true health is achieved when the biological humors (Doshas), the metabolic fires (Agni), the bodily tissues (Dhatus), and the excretory functions (Malas) are in perfect equilibrium, accompanied by a blissful soul, clear senses, and a serene mind. Beyond physical wellness, this alignment unlocks longevity, radiant health, and inner prosperity that transcends mere words and thoughts granting the fulfillment of all righteous desires and leading, without a doubt, to a state of living liberation (Jivan-mukti).
Yoga (The Science of the Mind)Patanjali’sYoga Sutras state:
“Yogahcitta-vritti-nirodhah” (Sutra 1.2)
This translates to “Yoga is the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind.” In this context, health is the harmonious functioning of the body, mind, and spirit in accordance with one’s natural biological rhythms.
Kalaripayattu (The Science of Energy and Action)
The traditional lineage verses of Kalari define health as:
“Dhrudagathrachittayukthampranashakthivivarddhitham |
Marmasthanaprakasham cha samadoshamthadaarogyam ||”
True health is a state where a robust body and a highly concentrated mind are united, the vital life force (Prana) is amplified, the vital energy centers (Marmas) are awakened, and the biological humors are perfectly balanced.
The Synthesis: When these three sciences converge, physical health and mental strength unite. This alignment ensures the unobstructed, fluid circulation of energy throughout the body. At Masters Kalari Heritage, our primary mission is to guide every individual toward this exact synthesis—harmonizing their physical, mental, and spiritual energies to help them realize their highest human potential.
Beyond treatments and therapies, your center offers a very homely and peaceful atmosphere. How important is compassion and human connection in the healing journey? Because i saw deffrnly able people also working.
To understand the atmosphere here, one must understand that Masters Kalari Heritage is an authentic, living Gurukula.
Since our inception, students and disciples have come here to live, train, and serve alongside the Guru. This immersive environment is the truest way to acquire authentic knowledge. Here, a student does not just memorize a skill; they gain a thorough understanding of life itself and realize their true self. Everyone serving at our center is part of this Gurukula Sampradaya (lineage tradition), having deeply understood the greatness of our heritage by staying close to the Guru to gain their training.
The word Gurukula literally translates to “the Guru’s clan” or family. A clan implies a lineage. Every lineage begins with an individual, expands into a family, and grows into a community. The disciples who live here and absorb this knowledge become its successors. Among them, those who prove to be the absolute best displaying the highest dedication and purity of intent are eventually chosen to become the next sacred link in this unbroken lineage. This seamless continuation is beautiful; it is another magnificent play of Nature. Because we live as a family, that warmth naturally extends to every guest who walks through our doors. It is really a home, not a commercial institution.
This foundational respect extends to how we work with differently abled individuals. We believe that every single human being possesses a unique set of physical, mental, and spiritual abilities. Our mission is to recognize, respect, and nurture their specific conditions, empowering them to step confidently into the mainstream of society.
When people notice them working proudly alongside us, I am always reminded of the timeless proverb: “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” True compassion is not about pity or charity; it is about providing dignity, purpose, and the tools for self-reliance.
Kerala has gifted the world Ayurveda and Kalaripayattu. What responsibility do traditional wellness centers have in protecting this cultural heritage for future generations?
Traditional wellness centers carry an immense, sacred responsibility today. In our current rush toward modernity, so much invaluable, time-tested traditional knowledge is rapidly disappearing and being lost to commercialization.
I see only one true path to preserving this cultural heritage: we must embody the tradition completely. We must refuse to dilute or compromise the arts just to suit modern trends. Instead, we must stand firm, holding fast to the precise methods, disciplines, and lifestyles laid down by our ancestors.
Every single activity that takes place at Masters Kalari Heritage whether it is the rigorous Kalari training, specialized Marma treatments, or the delicate process of traditional medicine preparation is executed without a single compromise on ancestral values or style. The real, tangible achievements we witness daily through these pure practices serve as a living testament, enabling others to truly see and understand the timeless greatness of this tradition.
In short, our ultimate duty is to be entirely sincere, authentic, and truthful to the lineage. We firmly believe that maintaining this absolute integrity is the only way to spark true inspiration in the younger generation, motivating them to proudly take up, protect, and maintain this sacred cultural identity for the future.
As someone who has spent years guiding others toward wellness, how do you personally stay balanced, grounded, and spiritually connected in your own life?
It is actually very simple: we must always be completely honest with ourselves and approach every single aspect of life with the humble attitude of a student.
From the very moment a person becomes deeply aware of their own imperfections, a beautiful journey begins a continuous, life-long quest for self-refinement, improvement, and growth. When your focus is genuinely locked onto this inner path of learning, you simply no longer have the time or energy to worry about trivial distractions, comparison with others, or fleeting worldly concerns.
It is this constant curiosity and studious inquiry that drives me personally. The constant realization that I am merely a student, forever seeking the profound depths and true meaning of this great tradition and vision, is exactly what allows me to remain balanced, grounded, and deeply connected to the Source across the physical, mental, and spiritual levels.
If you could share one message with people across the world who are searching for peace, healing, or purpose, what would it be?
My message is simple: true well-being and lasting peace cannot be given to you by someone else; they must be achieved through your own conscious efforts.
The most direct path to finding them is to find yourself. The moment we stop looking outward, turn our gaze within, and begin to explore the depths of our own inner being, our true journey begins. It is a gentle, steady process. By understanding who we are at our core, we naturally and gradually step onto the path toward absolute peace and tranquility.
I can see here local people deeply trust your traditional therapy treatments. What is the secret behind earning this strong community faith, and how can that authentic trust be showcased to a global audience.
There is no complex secret to earning trust. If you want someone to trust you, you must truly listen to them, speak with honesty, and genuinely help them resolve their suffering. That is all that happens here. Our sole focus is to do everything in our power to bring comfort and healing to those who are sick, with the utmost sincerity.
Beyond that, it is the entire ecosystem of Masters Kalari Heritage that speaks to people. The deeply peaceful atmosphere, our natural landscape, the flawless preparation of our own traditional medicines, and the accompanying practices of Kalari, Yoga, and meditation all work together. They create a sacred space where an individual can truly look within, recognize their imbalances, and heal themselves.
To showcase this to a global audience, we do not need elaborate marketing. The path remains exactly the same. There are no shortcuts to gaining people’s faith; you simply have to be fiercely truthful and sincere to the absolute core of your being. When you are genuine, the world feels it.
Your wellness Retreat space is surrounded by such a peaceful natural setting, with water, greenery, and calming views that instantly make people feel relaxed. How did you discover this beautiful location, and how important is nature and the surrounding environment in the healing experience you offer?
This land is a sacred property passed down through generations of my ancestors and inherited from my father. It is a sanctuary blessed with natural, scenic beauty. Our only contribution has been to preserve and maintain this beauty exactly as nature intended; I have not done anything to artificially alter it.
The surrounding environment plays a monumental role in restoring physical and mental health a truth deeply recognized by both ancient traditional disciplines and modern medical science.
According to our traditions, all living existence is composed of the Panchamahabhutas the five great elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space. Human beings, nature, and all living creatures share this identical composition. When we immerse ourselves in nature, we are simply reconnecting with our own source, which immediately dissolves mental stress.
Modern science beautifully validates this ancient wisdom. Studies show that being close to nature significantly reduces cortisol, the body’s primary stress hormone, while stimulating the production of endorphins, the hormones responsible for joy and well-being. Furthermore, clinical research reveals that patients who recover in rooms with natural views and harmony heal much faster and display a significantly higher tolerance for pain than those confined to cramped, sterile spaces.
In short, there is no greater catalyst for boosting our natural immunity and awakening the body’s innate healing capacity than the embrace of Mother Nature.
